Neabsco Greenway from Benita Fitzgerald to I-95 (and back)

"Test the Trails" Adventure on October 31, 2021

This is a rural rustic area with much diversity with gorgeous terrain. We did not hike a path that would indicate a future greenway, but rather explored the area. However, we did note several areas that would provide for a majestic trail with several areas that would offer amazing views and provide for a great community park as well as a tourist destination. We did some “bushwacking” to I-95 Neabsco on some old utility roads and deer trail.

Powell's Creek Greenway

"Test the Trails" Adventure on November 7, 2021

Powell’s Creek Greenway: Kyle R. Wilson Elementary School to Powell’s
Creek Community Connector

We will explore how a trail down an unnamed tributary of Powell’s Creek could provide a connection from Minnieville and Spriggs roads to the main trail along Powells Creek. There is no existing developed trail; we will be going cross-country, especially once we reach Powell’s Creek. Expect to bushwack through brush and have to cross small gullies. Don’t be surprised if you see signs of deer and other wildlife.

Powell’s Creek Greenway: upstream from Minnieville Road
Meet at the western end of Courage Drive, which parallels Minnieville Road.
We will explore an undeveloped section of the Powell’s Creek Greenway, going upstream to the landfill and looking for a route to connect ultimately to Coles Elementary School and Hoadley Road.  There’s no developed trail, come prepared for brush, gullies, whatever…
Note: parking on Courage Drive will be part of the adventure, and there are no bathroom facilities.

Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail (Proposed)

"Test the Trails" on November 29, 2021

Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail (PHNST): Forest Greens Golf Course, from Joplin Road to culvert underneath I-95.
We will explore where the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail might be routed through the county-owned golf course, where a new disc golf layout has also been designed. Southern end of exploration is a possible crossing on I-9. If time permits, we can also look for a route through the woods to connect the clubhouse to Joplin Road.
